It is famous for its production of paper lanterns (called 'Gifu Chōchin'), made from rice paper and a bamboo frame. The idea behind this collection is based on the striking similarities between carved alabaster and the rice paper typically used for lanterns: both materials share delicate hues and a light, refined texture.
